ABOUT

Sons of Maverick

In the winter of 2015, brothers Dakota and Landon Tom had the idea of starting a small music group to play shows  at some of the local music venues and bars in Zanesville, Ohio. What began as an acoustic duo, turned into a trio when their father, Mike Tom, joined their practices playing steel guitar. As the jam sessions in their living room became more frequent, they discussed adding a fourth member to the group to create a full band. Mike invited his friend, Harry Taylor, over for a couple of beers and asked Harry to bring his bass. After hours of jamming to classic country and rock songs, they knew that they all wanted to make music together. The biggest task was deciding on a band name. Considering that 75% of the band is family, they wanted a name that incorporated their close family ties. Since Mike was given the nickname "Maverick" by Dakota and Landon's mom, the band name was a no-brainer: SONS OF MAVERICK. Their music has an edgy rock feel with the sweet sound of a country steel guitar mixed with in-your-face bass, drums and guitar riffs.

Maverick    (Mike Tom)

At the age of 9, after receiving a lap steel as a present from his grandpa, Mike began taking music lessons from talented local musician Chuck Spires. After a few years of playing the lap steel, he moved on to learning the pedal steel guitar, bass and guitar. As his playing progressed, he got involved with a band called The Green Valley Pickers, which consisted of his cousin, father, aunt and grandpa. They played many local venues in Ohio, including square dances, church events and local festivals. Mike has played with many bands throughout Southeastern Ohio and has been a part of various recording projects.

Landon Tom

Music has always been a passion for Landon. He picked up the guitar at the age of 4 and has not put it down since. As an 8 year member of the band Doublecut, Landon gained a vast amount of experience singing and progressing as a guitarist. He grew up playing in the Green Valley Picker's band, the same as his dad and brother Dakota. The three of them were also part of a music group known as T's Posse, where Landon received a big chunk of his musical influence. Landon has been featured as a session musician on various recording projects playing guitar and pedal steel guitar since moving to Nashville, TN in 2016.

Dakota Tom

A natural behind a drum set, Dakota has kept time for many groups throughout central Ohio and surrounding areas. As a musician, he plays multiple instruments including guitar, bass, steel guitar and piano. His professional career began at the age of 7 playing drums for the Green Valley Pickers. He has worked with numerous groups since. With a lifetime worth of drumming experience, he is as solid as they come.

Harry Taylor

Harry began playing the bass guitar as a teen in the Ohio Valley. Soon thereafter, Harry was working as a musician with local bands. Over the years Harry has worked with many other musicians and bands playing many genres of music, such as rock, blues, funk, folk and country. In doing so, Harry has played shows throughout the Midwest and has been part of many recording projects.
